Cockroach Intro
Cockroaches are any homeowner’s worst nightmare. These hard to kill pests are not only annoying but also dangerous to your home as they are prone to carrying diseases and infecting your household. There are four types of cockroaches that are common in American households: the German, American, Brown- Banded and Oriental Cockroach. These four breeds even though very similar have many distinctive differences. It’s important to understand the difference between these different types of cockroaches so that you can spot and eventually kill them all in your home.

First, we’ll begin with the American cockroach. These pesky bugs are attracted to dark wet places like basements and sewers. They will eat almost anything and hatch over 150 eggs a year.

German Cockroaches on the other hand can live up to 200 days without food and water and prefer sweet foods. These cockroaches are commonly found in bathrooms and kitchens because they are warm and damp.
Next, the brown-banded cockroach is one of the hardest to spot. They can live in any room in the house, as they prefer driers areas and avoid light as much often as possible. They are typically attracted to starchy foods.

Lastly, the Oriental Cockroach is perhaps one of the dirtiest breeds in this list. Out of the four the Oriental Cockroach the only one that does not fly but rather prefers dark wet areas such as sewers, firewood and crawlspaces. Oriental Cockroaches enjoy garbage and pretty much anything that is organic.

With this knowledge, you are now better equipped to spot these critters and find their hiding spots as you prepare to exterminate them from your home.

Why Bait is more Effective than Traps.

Imagine for a moment you’ve spotted a roach in your home. You become frantic and immediately run to the store and buy traps for you house. You “strategically” place these traps all over your home and take a big sigh of relief because you feel you will catch them all. And perhaps for a couple days you don’t see any more but then a little while later you notice another WHAT HAPPENED?

Well one of the reasons why roaches are so hard to eradicate is because of their offspring. Yes, traps are good for adult roaches that wonder into it but what about the eggs it has secretly laid in your house. This is where bait comes in. Bait is a great elimination tactic to use because it allows you the opportunity to kill off the eggs before they even hatch. But how does this work?

How Does Bait Work?

The concept behind topical roach bait is fairly simple. It comes in the form of gel or paste and you place a small amount (generally three or so times the amount you would use on a toothbrush). The gel should be placed in any area where a roach has been spotted. By using the information above you will be able to know which place would be the most effective to set the bait whether it is the kitchen or the basement. Once the bait has been placed, the roaches will not only consume it but take it back to their nest where the other roaches will feed off its infected droppings and sputum (saliva).

In all, cockroaches are one of the most irritating pests to get rid of. That’s why it’s important to use the right approach to get those critters out of your home. By using roach bait as part of your roach control kits to exterminate your roach infestation, you’re able to not only save yourself money but time as well. It is also key to note that Cockroaches can live for a month without food, so it’s imperative that once you spot one of these critters in your home you act immediately to eradicate them.
